Anna–Stina Svakko 

Anna-Stina Svakko was born in 1967. She lives in Porjus on the Swedish side of Sápmi. 

In 1991, she earned her master craftsman certificate in duodji, specializing in soft materials. She works full-time with duodji in her own company, Astu Design. Anna-Stina primarily sews Sámi garments but also takes on design assignments for theater and performance costumes. Textile art, lectures, and courses are also part of her work. 

Sámi church textiles have been a focus of her work for several years. She is the artistic director of the Girkogiisá project, which will be presented during the Sámi Church Days.

Per Ivar Somby 

Per Ivar Somby is originally from Alta but currently lives in Tromsø. In recent years, he has been colorizing old black-and-white photographs from Sámi communities, primarily images from the 19th century and early 20th century. He exhibits these images in Norway and Sweden and also shares his work through his social media channels. Somby’s images can be purchased directly from him. 

 

History Through Colors 

Artist Per Ivar Somby breathes new life into old photographs through colorization and storytelling. His art serves as a reminder of the past while offering a fresh perspective on Sámi history and identity.

Venue: The Square, Alta city center 
Opening by: May Bente Jönsson, Chair of the Sámi Church Council 

Opening Lecture: Per Ivar Somby will personally present the exhibition and his work. 

The exhibition will be displayed at the square in Alta city center in collaboration with Alta Municipality and will remain accessible until the end of August.
