Theological description of the theme
Living Stone – Living Church
The theme of Sami Church Days is about solid stone ground and that we who belong to Christ - the living stone - are also living stones, a living church.
"Come to him, the living stone, which was rejected by men, but is chosen and precious to God, and become living stones that are built up into a spiritual house!" (1 Pet. 2:4-5)
Christ is the living building block that God has chosen. We are invited to come unto Christ. In faith in Him, the living stone, we are a living church.
What does it mean for us to be living stones, living church? There is something dynamic in living. What lives can create something, adapt, shape the present, future and surroundings. In Sami tradition, adapting to nature is central. Socially, being part of a living church can give courage and power.
“Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock. And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house, but it was not moved; because it was based on the rock”
Matthew 7:24-25
When we build on rock, we can be sure that the house can withstand weather and wind. His words and promises stand firm through everything that happens, and He is with us through everything we experience.
