The Church of Norway congratulates the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF) for being awarded the Rafto Prize for 2020.

On 30 January, the National Council of the Church of Norway appointed the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit (59), as the new Presiding Bishop of the Bishops’ Conference of Norway.

Church of Norway - a brief history

The Church of Norway has represented the main expression of religious belief in Norway for a thousand years. It has belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran branch of the Christian church since the 16th century, and has been a state church since then until 2012. Around 70 per cent of Norway’s population are currently baptized members.
