Church of Norway goals for the years 2015-18

Adopted by the Church of Norway General Synod 2014.

In the period 2015-2018 we want:

1.
Worship life to blossom
The worship is a meeting with holiness, with God.
The worship is an open, participative and inclusive community.
The worship connects us with the worldwide church.
The church holds marriage ceremonies that celebrate love and ask for God’s blessings on people’s lives together.
The church comforts those who have lost someone and lets them experience a dignified funeral where they can surrender the departed into God’s hands.
The church sustains and renews church music and welcomes a variety of artistic and cultural expressions.

2.

More people to seek baptism and Christian education
Members of the Church of Norway baptise their children.
All those who are baptised and associated members aged 0-18 years are invited to Christian education that lets them feel at home in the church, and that gives them knowledge about Christian faith.
The period of confirmation classes nourishes faith and life.
The age group 18-30 years experience the church as relevant, true to life and accessible.
The Church offers Christian education to adults.
Sami church life is thriving and on an equal footing with other parts of church life. Sami language and culture are safeguarded in worship live and Christian education.
Kven language and culture are safeguarded in worship life and Christian education.

3.

The “Folk church” to be more involved in society
The church promotes care, dignity and respect through collaborations between congregations and diaconal institutions.
The church upholds human dignity, peace, human rights and care for creation.
Mission is a part of the identity of a congregation and an expression of how God has made us messengers.
The church is a relevant participant in the media community.
The church is a clear and constructive voice in the Norwegian society, in cooperation with authorities, other denominations, cultural life and civil society.
Those who are new in Norway, find a place in the congregations of the Church of Norway or in their own faith community.
The church emphasizes interreligious dialogue.

4.
More people to seek a work life in the church
The church inspires to participation and ensures there are good working conditions for volunteers and employees.
The church strengthens recruitment to service in the church, in cooperation with the children and youth organisations and the educational institutions.
