When the church bells around the country are ringing a little extra on Sunday at one o’clock, and for seven minutes, it is something very unusual. At present, the crisis is so grave that it is time to use special means. The bells are ringing for peace. The mission of the church is always to call for peace, reconciliation and justice, as we have been taught to do by the words and example of Jesus.
The Bishops Conference and the National Council of the Church of Norway March 12. decided to close all churches in the midst of the spread of COVID-19. Sunday’s worship services will be held online instead to protect churchgoers from the spread of the virus.
On 30 January, the National Council of the Church of Norway appointed the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit (59), as the new Presiding Bishop of the Bishops’ Conference of Norway.
